I remember a few years ago taking my kids to buy shoes. All they wanted were Nikes, which was fine by me.

But while we were sitting there shopping, one of my kids said “Dad, you should get a pair.” And he pointed to a pair that he really liked for me.

For whatever reason, I had so much resistance in buying myself Nikes. And for years, I would never even look at them. It wasn’t a conscious thing, but I noticed I would often do it more subconsciously.

But this time it stood out on my kid said and I got to thinking, “Why do I have so much resentment towards Nikes?” I realized it was because when I was a kid, I knew that I’d never be able to have a pair because my family couldn’t afford them.

I was the kid with “Adidas” with four stripes. (Adidas have only three.)

So I bought a pair of NIkes to get over whatever limiting belief was still living subconsciously in my head.  And it worked.

I don’t look at Nikes for any better or worse than any other pair of shoes now, have since about a second pair, and my kids gave me these third pair for Christmas.
