Selling our old Excursion. Used it to tow campers, but haven’t had one for a few years. Just kept the SUV because it’s been paid off, but three SUVs is one too many.

Thought they sold for $5-6k. Didn’t even bother looking up.  It’s a tank, and it guzzles gas. Didn’t expect it to sell for a ton.

Offered it low for $4,000 hoping to avoid haggling.  Had someone interested, but when they were test driving it it stalled while sitting idle at a light.

When they came back they asked about it and I remembered that had happened years ago and we replaced a cylinder for $200.

He asked if I’d take off more.  I told him I knew it was just a $200 deal so I’d take off just that much, because it was already a killer deal because it also included:

  • $1200 in new tires
  • $2000 in separate winter tires and wheels
  • $2700 in new suspension few years earlier

He declined.

I took it to the shop.  Go figure. Was a $200 fix.

This time when I listed it for sale I actually looked at the sale value.

This thing is 22 years old. Has decent miles, just 123,000.  And they sell for $8k on a cheap side. Some of these in better body shape were selling for $18,000. 🤯 Not including all the fresh sets of tires.

Listed it for $7,500.  Sold the next day.

When you’re confident in the value you offer, don’t give in.
