Had a new SEO client that we’re now a few months in. We’re crushing it and more responsive than his design agency so he wrapped up that engagement.
Their response?
They took down his website… the website that he paid for.
Guys. If the client paid for your site, it’s theirs.
If a client paid for SEO and content, it’s theirs.
Because they stop paying you for NEW stuff doesn’t mean you kill their old stuff.
They flipped his ~100 page site into a single page landing page.
Good news is that when we finish technical updates for clients we pull backups.
We also keep absolutely ever piece of content we make. We’ve had some clients come back 2-3 years later and, guess who has everything available?
👈🏻 This guy’s team.
They held his site hostage for something crazy like $40,000 – $50,000. I can’t remember the exact amount.
But instead we not only were able to restore everything, all URLs, recreate the structure, load all the content, AND do a new redesign while at it in just three weeks and $10,000.
Bad news is those guys now have a pending lawsuit.
Do the right thing. At worst, you avoid lawsuits. At best, clients come back to you like they do us all them time when they find out the grass wasn’t greener.
