Was driving home from my son’s soccer game last night, when he asks out of nowhere,
“Dad. How come all the ‘top people’ say you have to be a doctor or a lawyer, or a mayor to be successful?
But Elon Musk and Bill Gates are more successful, because they’re entrepreneurs.”
~12 year old Burton, future world changer.
With nothing wrong with any career choice, I explained why that’s the generalized advice. Because people tell people what people told those people.
He went on to tell me how he wants to be an entrepreneur and a BMX biker.
Told him another thing to keep in mind, don’t feel obligated to choose a career now.
- 12 year old you is different than 16 year old you.
- 16 is different than 20.
- 20 is different than 24.
And to never feel bad about exploring what he likes and doesn’t like in life until he finds what makes him happy.
I could see the wheels turning in his head. Super proud moment.
