I’ll tell you in retrospect one of the best things that I ever did as a parent was take my kids on one-on-one trips when they were young-young.

My oldest is barely a teenager, but he’s so grown already. We just did round and back to San Diego for 24 hours to hang out at the beach and shop thrift stores.

I let my kids pick a place they want to go. If we do one night then it’s usually within a one hour flight to somewhere like San Diego, Vegas, or Arizona. If they want to spend more time, then we’ll go wherever they want, including other countries.

He’s already 6 foot tall and was asked twice by two different TSA if he really was a minor. Again, he’s barely a teenager.

He’s tall, confident, and funny. He’s Mr. Popular.

Between that, and now having a girlfriend, here’s where my gratitude for those early trips comes in…

With so many people fighting for his attention and him having endless things to do, I realize that had I not done day trips with him as a kid it would be nearly impossible to convince him to go with me now.

But he’s used to them, I think he like them, but either way he never hesitates to go with me. 🥰
