I tell my kids “no,” a lot, especially to buying them things. Helps them understand saving, the value of their money and long-term decision making.

Been cool seeing it start to click.

Instead of asking me to buy them things, they’re now starting to say “Dad, I have $X for Y thing. Can you buy it for me since it’s online and I’ll give you the money?”

After I buy the thing, I don’t ask right away for them to pay me. I see if they do it on their own. Trying to teach them to honor their word and pay proactively.

But if a day goes by without payment, I have fun with reminding them to hold them accountable.
