Ahead of my 20th anniversary with my wife, we’d been sharing pics of the venue and the things we were doing ahead of the event with our friends. “Your relationship is AI,” was probably the best compliment from a friend I’d never expect to have appreciated.
After the celebration, I keep getting messages of how beautiful an event it was.
- The vibe of the friends we brought together.
- How cool it was to have a cartoon caricature sketch artist and “what a fun way to give back to your friends and family.”
- How respectful and engaging our kids were.
- How our vow renewals made them cry.
One of the biggest accomplishments we pulled off… no phones. We shared in the invite, and had nice signs made at the door and aisle that asked for privacy, to be present, and to enjoy the moment. And guess what? ~100 people were there, and except one non-identifiable pic… zero posts online. What a cool experience to have that much respect from friends, and to be fully present with them and my wife.
But the messages I’ve received the most are how beautiful my wife looked, and almost entirely from other women friends. The way I read them though is much more than how amazing my wife looked. It’s about the depth of our relationship. Almost as if the “she’s glowing” comments are because our relationship is glowing.
I’d be hard pressed to find newlyweds that love each other as much as Aleah and I do, let alone a couple two decades in. That’s probably exactly the reason why though… we’re 22 years into being with each other. That’s a lot of time. A lot of ups, and a lot of downs. A lot of learning, and a lot of recommitting to still choosing each other that makes each time bring you closer.
