Shout out to all the AI website builders selling sites for pennies on the dollar.
Yes, the little guys are taking away marketshare from other little guys. But you’re not taking away marketshare from the $10,000+ custom WordPress websites.
You’re building demand.
The amount of AI sites that look ok visually (sometimes), but are poorly structured, are hard to scale content, and cumbersome to edit because you don’t have an actual CMS are losing businesses money.
So when someone pays for a new site that doesn’t deliver, they’re willing to pay a premium to do it right.
They were sold on something that’s wasn’t actually what they needed. And it was sold by whispering the magic word “AI.”
No, I’m not contradicting myself from this post. That post is talking about design only, not development.
And not all AI sites are trash. And results will improve over time. But good ones usually end up not saving much time, and are still harder to scale. Because you have to babysit it and reinvent the wheel constantly.
But they’re cute and novel because, “AI!”
Serious businesses want results over convenience and realize that websites aren’t just websites.
They’re living and breathing linchpins in a marketing ecosystem.
And fly-by-night AI designers are increasingly disappointing clients that are desperate to get back under the wings of experts that don’t see websites as something to check off a list.
